Secure FTP Transfer of Client Design Files and Other Information

To enable CADceptual Design to work efficiently with our clients, partners and sub-contractors it is imperative that there is an effective method of transferring data, quickly and securely. By utilising FTP technology we are able to bypass the security and size limitations of an e-mail system and the logistical problems of using conventional data storage media.

At the start of a project, the client’s approved personnel and the members of the CADceptual Design cycle are provided with a password protected area which:

  1. enables information relevant to the undertaking, such as project briefs, product/process or technical documentation, and project plans to be stored and access by the team as required, and
  2. provides a secure and efficient route to transfer large amounts of data between the relevant personal and businesses providing real time exposure to changes and reducing the overall project lead-time.

CADceptual Design FTP Folders

Folder Folder size FTP Folder Address (URL)
GENERAL (45Mb) ftp://general@ftp.cadceptual.co.uk
FOLDER 1 (200Mb) ftp://folder1@ftp.cadceptual.co.uk

To Use our FTP Service Using Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer:

Accessing Your FTP Folder

  1. Click the FTP folder that you want above.

Or if you want to carry on following these instructions:

Open up either Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer in a fresh window. (You may find Windows Explorer easier).
Type or copy-and-paste the FTP Folder Address (URL) into your fresh Windows / Internet Explorer browser address bar.

  2. A password box should appear with the username (foldername@cadceptual.co.uk) already entered.
Check the foldername is the folder you want. If the username does not appear or if it is not for the folder you want, type in the correct username.
Enter your password (provided by CADceptual Design) in the password entry box below and click Log On.

If you get an error message instead of the password box, refresh your browser page (F5) and the box should appear.  Proceed as in the above instructions of this point (point 2).

Using Your FTP Folder

  1. To download a file or folder, right-click the item on the page, and then click Copy to Folder, select the destination folder and click OK. ( Or just copy and paste if you prefer!)

  2. To upload a file from your PC, select the file (for example using Windows Explorer in another open window), copy it then paste it into CADceptual Design folder. You may have to reinsert the password into the security box before pasting.

  3. Simply close the window to leave.

Notes for the Technically Minded:

  1. Ignore the protected system folder ‘.ftpquota’ – this can be seen but not accessed

  2. You cannot move files within or between FTP sites. You can move files from this folder to a temporary location on your computer or a network drive, and then upload them to another FTP site

  3. You can use your PC: My Network Places, Add a Network Place, then the wizard to set up a short cut to the folder.

  4. You can also use FTP software if you prefer to operate the folder and carry out file movements

Good luck! Email us if you have a problem or have lost your password.
