Reverse Engineering and 3d Printing Bezel

The part was susceptible to damage and failure in the field and replacement parts were needed in low volume. With costs key, we needed to move away from injection moulding the part.

We reverse engineered the physical part whilst updating the design so it could be machined far more cost effectively in aluminium 6082 T6 which also provided more strength.  Further durability was gained from covering the part in fine texture powder coating to resemble the spark finish on the original part.

We successfully produced a 3D print of the part in PLA material on our in-house Ultimaker 3 FDM machine enabling the client to review and verify the product assembly ahead of delivery of the aluminium parts which were sourced through our Parts and Procurement Service.
